[TREND] Syrian Jilbabs - How Do They Differ From the Traditional Dress?

Different culturally conscious western and Asian countries have differences in their clothing items to distinguish them from one another; similarly, there is a lot of diversity visible in the Muslim clothing worn in various Muslim countries. Observing the jilbabs worn by women from different Middle Eastern countries, it becomes clear that there are various subtle and prominent differences between the cloaks worn by them. From Saudi Arabia to Oman, Turkey to Dubai, Morocco to Jordan, all areas offer their own distinctive touch and class to the traditional Muslim outfits.

Syrian Jilbabs are another example of a special type of overdress that is a long standing traditional symbol of the region. These jilbabs are different from those of originating in other regions in terms of appearance and style.

The Syrian jilbabs resemble the western over coats more than the typical jilbabs from other regions. Similar in style to the outerwear used for cold weather in many countries, these jilbabs are more form fitting with coat like collars and occasionally cuffs at the wrists. Another similarity between them and western outerwear is that they are worn over some form of clothing, so they too are an additional layering of clothes, which are used to cover up the entire body from the throat to the ankle.

Typically all women in the major cities of Syria are very well dressed as is the trend in all major metropolitan cities across the globe. They wear these cloaks along with smartly tucked and pinned hijabs to create a sleek and polished look suitable for any event or chore of the day. Damascus, the capital as well as the largest city of Syria is a prime example where modernly dressed women can be seen all around the city. Here the streets are filled with working women as well as home makers, but they are all dressed in trendy and stylish clothes which are still in keeping with the teachings of Islam; the religion of the country.

Syrian Jilbabs can also be seen in a number of European and American cities as they can blend in with their own local outfits with more ease than the traditional loose fitting cloaks. Due to this reason, many working Muslim women in these regions opt to wear the Syrian versions to work in order to fulfill their obligation towards religion and proper work ethics.

Today Muslim women have a choice to select from a large variety of designs, styles, cuts and colours that they can wear. As opposed to the traditional loose and flowing black which was the norm of yester years, today women wear what they find most suits their day to day needs.
